Local Breckenridge Wedding Photographer, Robin Johnson, took these pics, just hours apart yesterday. At 9 AM, it was full on winter, and by noon the clouds broke, the sun came out and everything melted pretty quickly. I just wanted to share these pics, as it shows how drastic the weather can be in the mountains of Colorado.
The increase in elevation makes for an intense sun that reminds you that you are in fact closer to the sun, which can be bad for delicate flowers. We considered this as a recent wedding party took their flowers hours before the ceremony for photo shoots out in the elements.
Now, some flowers are hardier than others and this will be no problem at all. However, the sun can wilt flowers very fast when left with no shelter from the direct rays of the sun. Therefore, we propose two things here:
1) An Extra set of Boutonierres or Corsages for those taking part in the photos long before the ceremony.
This way, if fragile delphinium or other flowers lose their luster in the sun, you'll have a fresh one ready for the ceremony.
2) Plan ahead. Hope for party cloudy skies (which make for great pics), a gentle breeze, and good vibes.
Strive for what you want, but be realistic and ready to go to PLAN B the moment the downpour starts. You don't want your friends and family to stand out in the rain, because you HAVE to get married OUTSIDE. Wait it out, extend cocktail hour a few extra minutes, and hang in there if that's what you want.
Otherwise, be flexible, enjoy the moment and go with the flow. Because it JUST MIGHT SNOW at your wedding in Breckenridge in June. Thanks Robin, for the pics.
